Settings that save your battery

Settings that save your battery

April 30, 2026 · Marek Dvořák

Mobile games can drain a battery faster than anything else on your phone, but a few settings usually recover a surprising amount of life. The first place I look is the frame rate cap. Dropping from 60 to 30 fps in a slow game is often invisible and buys you real extra playtime.

Next up is brightness. Games push you to crank it, but most look fine a few steps lower, especially indoors. Pair that with turning off any 'high quality' render toggle and the phone runs cooler too.

Background effects are sneaky culprits. Particle density, dynamic shadows, and screen-space reflections look nice in screenshots but cost a lot on a phone. If a game offers a performance preset, try it before the high preset.

Lastly, close the game properly when you're done. Plenty of titles keep doing work in the background, nibbling power while you think you've stopped. A quick swipe-away habit adds up over a day.
